Marc Anderson, viola

Violist Marc Anderson is the first recipient of the Eastman School of Music's prestigious Robert L. Oppelt Viola Award. He has performed with members of the Emerson String Quartet and is himself a member of the Rochester-based string quintet Quartsemble. An accomplished orchestral musician, Mr. Anderson is among the youngest members of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. He has performed with Chamber Music Rochester, the Finger Lakes Chamber Ensemble, the Rochester Chamber Orchestra, the New World Symphony in Miami and at the renowned Aspen Music Festival, where he was the assistant principal violist of the Chamber Symphony.

An ardent supporter of music education, Mr. Anderson teaches viola at Roberts Wesleyan College, performs with the Rochester Philharmonic Education Quintet, mentors young musicians in his wife's school orchestra program, and maintains a private studio of viola and violin students. He holds both Bachelors and Masters performance degrees from the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with George Taylor and John Graham. During this time he was the teaching assistant to Mr.Graham and was the recipient of a Performers Certificate and an Orchestral Studies Diploma. Mr. Anderson has also trained with members of the Tokyo String Quartet, Roberto Diaz and Melissa Matson, among others. In his spare time he enjoys reading classic literature, listening to indie music, and cooking with his wife.
